About the artist
Marie Ahearn hand crafts jewelry from her studio on the Maine coast. She is a lifelong painter whose work is marked by close observation of nature. Marie found her way to metalsmithing and jewelry making after taking up blacksmithing a decade ago. In metal, she found a medium perfectly suited for the expression of organic forms.
In the spring of 2010 Marie launched her jewelry line, Marie Ahearn Designs. Her jewelry displays an eye for natural form as well as the influence of her ten years of work at a forge and anvil. Marie first worked as a blacksmith at Whitesavage and Lyle in Seattle, WA and later at Ball and Chain Forge in Portland, ME.
Marie holds a B.A. in fine art and philosophy from Colgate University and an MFA in painting from The Cranbrook Academy of Art. She has been taught by and is indebted to many blacksmiths and metalsmiths who are forever generous with their knowledge and expertise.
